Schedule & Speakers

29th of August 2020

10:00 to 11:00 (GMT+3) | The very first class with pre-schoolers online: how to survive

Tatiana Fanshtein

No matter how experienced a teacher is, giving the very first class turns out to be a big challenge. It's like the first time on the stage: you never know what to expect and how to avoid failing, especially if your students are kids under 6. And what if you are going online and it might be their first online lesson experience? In the workshop we'll talk about the most important steps of preparation for the first class online. Besides, we'll have a look at a ready lesson plan and practise how to deal with difficulties teachers usually face, including talking to parents.

11:15 to 12:15 (GMT+3) | Giving Purpose to Teen Lessons

Tom Wiseman

Teens don't always feel a need to study English. A student may be able to tell you why English is "important to my future," but that doesn't directly translate into effort, and it certainly doesn't guarantee results. In this workshop, we will cover strategies to use in the beginning of a course and throughout the year that will establish a strong relationship with your teen and young adult students.

13:00 - 14:00 (GMT+3) | My top 10 ‘Must & Must Nots’ during your first week in class

Paul Newson

The success of the school year is often set in stone within the first week taking into account the teacher’s organization, methodology and language skills, and especially EQ. In this session I shall share with you my top 10 ‘Must & Must Nots’ that have been tried and tested over almost 18 years of teaching that ensure consistency in the teacher’s approach, organizational skills, bonding between student and teacher as well as how to lead by example.

14:15 - 15:15 (GMT+3) | Setting the tone for a positive and productive relationship with parents

Antoine Marcq

We all know parents can make a very positive impact on studies. They can also make a devastating impact! Homework, reports, grades, … Do parents have their priorities straight in their child’s education? Do parents understand how to assess quality education? In this workshop, we are going to examine external relationships that influence our students, implement communication strategies to set fruitful relationships, and devise ground rules to set the tone for a calm and successful academic year.

15:30 - 16:30 (GMT+3) | Teachers of the Round Table Session

Tatiana Fanshtein, Tom Wiseman, Paul Newson and Antoine Marcq

In this hour our speakers will appear together to answer any questions you might have with regards to the themes presented as well as supporting you with any others you may have.
